Course objectives
By the end of the course delegates will have the skills to identify opportunities and understand the structures and risks in leveraged finance transactions.
- Identify opportunities for leveraged finance solutions
- Understand why and when corporations and financial institutions employ leveraged financing techniques
- Determine the value of a target acquisition
- Learn how debt can be used to facilitate a buyout or acquisition and how to assess the appropriate level of debt
- Analyse the main strengths and risks of the different financing structures, including: equity, senior, revolving credit, mezzanine finance, non-amortising senior debt tranches, use of PIK notes
- Use excel-based models to determine the optimal debt/equity structure and assess the feasibility of a buyout
- Identify what the potential returns are for successful deals and the reasons for failure
- Make decisions on an exit strategy and assess the feasibility of refinancing a buyout
