Course objectives

By the end of the course delegates will have the skills to identify opportunities and understand the structures and risks in leveraged finance transactions.

  • Identify opportunities for leveraged finance solutions
  • Understand why and when corporations and financial institutions employ leveraged financing techniques
  • Determine the value of a target acquisition
  • Learn how debt can be used to facilitate a buyout or acquisition and how to assess the appropriate level of debt
  • Analyse the main strengths and risks of the different financing structures, including: equity, senior, revolving credit, mezzanine finance, non-amortising senior debt tranches, use of PIK notes
  • Use excel-based models to determine the optimal debt/equity structure and assess the feasibility of a buyout
  • Identify what the potential returns are for successful deals and the reasons for failure
  • Make decisions on an exit strategy and assess the feasibility of refinancing a buyout
